Artist Statement

My work explores light and the way it acts, behaves and exists in relation to photography. The history of photography and its relationship with light is fundamental to the art form and this is what my work investigates. Dealing with mainly sculptural forms, my work plays with light in a multi-dimensional state. Thinking about camera obscura and ways in which light can be manipulated and controlled as well as contained. With previous interests in chemistry and physics my practice is heavily influenced by the science of these concepts which has led me to explore alternative methods of printing including cyanotypes and anthotypes.  Though rarely used, film is my main media for creating photographs as it has a more natural relationship to light in the way it is used. My practice is tactile and physical and focuses on the intangible becoming tangible and real, as something you can interact with.
